And the Winner of the LA Food Fest VIP Tickets Is…

OMGBren

The winner. She's the one in the back.

If you left your comments and did everything I asked for, your entry to my contest to win VIP tickets to the sold-out LA Street Food Fest Summer Tasting Event was counted. And after consolidating all the entries and getting rid of duplicate “I forgot to include my food truck pick/Twitter” I fed the numbers into the Randomizer and it spat out the winner.

So the lucky person who gets two VIP tickets to the food truck lover’s paradise this Saturday is @omgbren! Congrats, Bren Lee Gomez! Have fun and I hope to run into you at the event.

And thanks to everyone who participated in the contest. I wish I had more tickets to give away, but alas two’s all I got.

*****CONTEST IS CLOSED*****

With only four days until the LA Street Food Fest at the Rose Bowl, I’m sure you’ve heard all about it by now. That you get to eat food from over 60 LA food trucks, enjoy live music at an outdoor concert, partake of an ice cream social, shop the Unique LA Marketplace, explore the tequila and mezcal tasting and indulge in the open bars featuring Sailor Jerry Rum and Camarena Tequila. I know, it’s pretty awesome and it’s definitely the must-do this weekend if you’re a fan of food trucks, nomminess and tasty cocktails.

But if that’s not enough to get you champing at the bit, I’ve got more good news for you that isn’t even published on the event’s site yet but has been confirmed by Shawna Dawson, co-founder of the LA Street Food Fest.

Skilled mixologists Michel Dozois (Neve Ice) and Devon Espinosa (Tasting Kitchen) have created special cocktails — a couple for the VIP hour and two more for general admission — just for the occasion.

VIP Hour Cocktails:

  • #5 (by Michel) – Camerena Reposado, freshly squeezed lemon juice, chili slices and fresh cherries
  • Camarena Fresca (by Devon) — Camarena Silver, Lime, St. Germain topped with sparkling lemonade

General Admission Cocktails (both by Michel):

  • Los Pelomas – Camerena Reposado,  fresh grape fruit juice, simple syrup and a splash of soda
  • Mexican Spice — Camerena Silver, fresh squeezed lime juice, agave nectar and a strawberry

Also, Sailor Jerry Rum will offer the thirst-quenching Arnold Palmer and its signature Dark & Stormy made with spicy ginger beer. Perfect for a warm summer day.

So if you’ve already bought your tickets you’re probably very happy right now. But if you haven’t yet, you procrastinator, I’m sorry to say that all the general admission tickets have sold out as of this morning.

If you don’t mind splurging a bit and getting in early there are still a few VIP tickets available. At $65 a person, you get entrance into the event an hour and a half before everyone else, access to the VIP parking lot, those two bonus cocktails and special food items plus a surprise guest on stage. Not too shabby, and if you want to get in the event, VIP is the only way to go.

That is unless you win the pair of VIP tickets (worth $130) I’m giving away! That’s right, one lucky crackhead will get to attend the LA Street Food Fest in style. Lucky!

For your chance at the tickets all you have to do is the following:

  1. Leave a comment below with your email address (so I can contact you if you win) and your Twitter handle as well as which food truck you’re looking forward to trying at the fest.
  2. Tweet this: “I’m hungry, @carolineoncrack! Gimme VIP tix to @lafoodfest! http://bit.ly/d3w3gZ”
  3. And lastly become a fan of (aka “Like”) my Facebook page.

**You have to do all of the above for your contest submission to be valid.**

Contest ends Thursday at 7pm PST. And at 1pm PST on Friday the 23rd, I’ll plug the entries into the randomizer, pick out a winner and notify you.

Good luck, all!  By the way, if you don’t win this time, make sure to buy your tickets online as they won’t be sold at the door.

Table20.com’s Best Bartender Contest: Who’s Your Favorite LA Bartender?

Bartender and an absinthe flame by Caroline on Crack

Bartender on fyah!

You hear me prattle on and on about my favorite bartenders in Los Angeles, but who are yours? Wait, don’t tell me here, rather nominate them on Table20.com and you will have a chance to win this one fabulous prize — dinner for four at Lazy Ox Canteen, dinner for two at Takami Sushi & Robata Restaurant and tickets for two to the post-contest party. Just nominate your fave mixologist to improve your odds.

Of course, with prizes like that you will have to do more than just click a box. You’ll have to register with Table20.com and then submit the following about your bartender:

  • their picture — mobile phone pictures work
  • their first name
  • their place of work (name and location)
  • why they deserve to be named LA’s Best Bartender

Easy peasy. And you can actually nominate more than one bartender. You have until August 4th to get your nomination in but do it now while you remember. If anything this would be a great way to give your go-to bartender their much deserved props, especially if they are an undiscovered talent, a consummate professional, a wiz in customer service or just your dependable “therapist.”

From Table20.com:

The best bartender can be defined by many aspects; best service, best drinks, broadest drink knowledge, the fastest, best under pressure, best personality, best stories, best listener, most consistent, whatever attribute makes you happy.

After the 30 days of collecting nominees and then voting, the list will be narrowed down to the top 25 nominees with the most votes. The bartender with the most votes at this point in the game will be the automatic People’s Choice winner and one of the six finalists.  The five judges (I’m one!) will then select a fave bartender from the remaining 24 nominees.

The next phase of the contest involves the judges visiting each of the finalists and then we deliberate over who is the overall winner of the contest, who will then be announced after August 16.

Your hardworking drink slinger will win not only bragging rights but a VIP bourbon tasting at the Edison, dinner at Osteria La Buca and a $100 gift certificate to every mixologist’s favorite store, Bar Keeper Silver Lake! Yeah, definitely wayy better than your usual 20% tip, right?

Win Tickets to Nights With Neve Cocktail Party

Tomatoes and ice by Caroline on Crack

Tomatoes and ice

*****CONTEST CLOSED*****

Win a pair of tickets to a “Nights With Neve Ice” cocktail party at Osteria La Buca. You’ll want these babies (worth $60). At this event in the cozy Italian restaurant on Melrose, not only will you get to enjoy that fancy, luxury ice by Michel Dozois (formerly of Comme Ca and STK) that’s featured in the cocktails at the Hollywood Roosevelt Library Bar and Bottega Louie, but four “Italian Gypsy”-inspired specialty cocktails created by Michel and Steve Livigni, general manager of La Descarga. And for each cocktail, Osteria La Buca’s Chef Alberto Lazzarino, will pair a beautiful bite to go with it.

Tickets to the event are available for $30 per person and include food, live music and the four cocktails (it’s $8 for each additional cocktail). That’s still quite a deal even if you don’t win tickets here. Reservations are required so email Michel at md [at] neveice.com.

Want to try your luck at the contest anyway? All you have to do is come up with your own name for an Italian cocktail. I tried it on Drago Centro’s spring cocktail menu armed with only an English-Italian online translator and I think I did pretty well. You don’t have to make up your own recipe or anything complex like that, just give me a name and include the English translation. And if you’re so inclined, why that would be the name of your cocktail. Just don’t give me the Italian translation of a cocktail name that already exists, capiche? But you can rename your favorite cocktail. Like, I’d call the Manhattan “Nettare Delizioso” — delicious nectar.

OK so how do you win these tickets? Just do the following:

  1. Leave a comment below with your email address (so I can contact you if you win) and your Twitter handle as well as your Italian cocktail name. There is no right answer, I’m just curious.
  2. Tweet this: “I need a drink @carolineoncrack! Gimme tix 2 Nights w/ @NeveIce @OsteriaLaBuca! http://bit.ly/aQabdJ”

Submit your entries by this Thursday at 1pm and then I’ll use the randomizer to pick a winner, which will be announced the next day. Buona fortuna!

POST EDIT: The winner’s cocktail name will be applied to one of the evening’s cocktails! Go to the jump to see the drink ingredients of each of Michel and Steve’s drinks. Names have been omitted for this contest.
