Growing up, even though I had ratted out hair and wore Siouxsie black kohl eyeliner, I didn’t just listen to Duran Duran and Culture Club. I liked mixing it up with what is now considered old school jams. Gimme some “White Lines” and “Cutie Pie,” and ooh! Lisa Lisa’s “Head to Toe,” and I was gettin’ dowwwn.
If you were the same way and even have 92.3 FM as a preset you’ll be excited about the Old School Jams Live concert at the Greek Theatre September 13 at 6:30pm. Yup, those bands you grooved to when you were a kid (or even now) will be performing live — Lisa Lisa, Ready for the World, Klymaxx and Kurtis Blow to name a few. Tickets range from $35-$65.
BUT if you’re lucky, you may win the pair of tickets in the upper terraces that I’m giving away this week! To enter this here contest just leave a comment below with the name of your favorite old school jam and artist as well as your email address so I can contact you. Easy! No wrong answers here, folks.
The contest ends this Friday at 5pm PST and I’ll contact the winner that evening. BTW, you must be a SoCal resident to enter. Just makes it easier that way.
Good luck to all!

There are so many…but I think I will go with Ready for the World “Love You Down”. Thanks!!!!
I know! I have so many faves, too. That Ready for the World song is a nice slow jam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13D1eO5I-uQ
“Lost in Emotion” – Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, absolutely!!

If we’re gonna go serious old school… I once saw The Sugarhill Gang perform Rapper’s Delight while Fred Berry from What’s Happenin’ did his dance onstage with them. Red suspenders and all. Pure awesome.
Oh man, I am old. I loved Lisa Lisa’s “All Cried Out,” but how could I pick just one?
For me, Klymaxx “I Miss You”, without a doubt. Straight up 80′s sentimental magic.
Oh my God Lynn. If you were at the Santa Monica Retrofest when you saw The Sugerhill Gang w/Rerun then you saw my drunk ass sneak onstage and sing with all of them too. I was the white guy. As for my old skool song: Prince–I Want to Be Your Lover.
Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTtelwOgscM
Crush on You! -the Jets
How can anyone forget?
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam – Head To Toe
Totally agree with Desi (#10)…such great memories: Klymaxx “I Miss You”
I think it is definitely going to have to be Kenny Loggins “Im Alright”. Its the story of my life – and childhood and present. Oh man, too much reminiscence. Jamercize!
