I may not have been crazy about Yummy Cupcakes in the past but I definitely have to give them credit for their creativity and daring with regards to flavors. Pancakes n’ Bacon? Tomato Soup Cake? Chocolate Merlot?
Yup, remember when they had wine flavored cupcakes? Well, cocktail enthusiasts might be happy to know that they can now enjoy some popular cocktails in cupcake form. But not only is there alcohol baked-in goodness, but you can get them for $2.50 between 5 and 6pm on Fridays during the store’s “happy hour.” (The cocktail cupcakes are normally $3 each.) I’m both skeptical of and intrigued by the cocktail choices. But what do you think of them?
Featured flavors include:
- Apple Martini: Sour apple and vodka cupcake frosted with a sour apple buttercream, rimmed with sugar crystals and topped with a cherry
- Cosmopolitan: Vanilla/cranberry/lime cupcake baked with a “shot” of vodka, frosted with a cranberry/lime buttercream, garnished with a sugared jelly “slice of lime”
- Lemon Drop: Lemon Drop cupcake made with fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, baked with a “shot” of vodka, frosted with a lemon buttercream, garnished with a sprinkle of sugar and a sugared jelly “slice of lemon”
- Long Island Iced Tea: A blend of liquors in both the cupcake and buttercream give you an adult version of a summer iced tea
- Margarita: Lemon/lime cupcake baked with a “shot” of tequila, frosted with a lime buttercream, garnished with a sprinkle of salt and a sugared jelly “slice of lime”
- Pina Colada: Coconut/pineapple cupcake baked with a “shot” of rum, frosted with a coconut buttercream, garnished with a sprinkle of coconut, a maraschino cherry and a mini umbrella
Heyyy, where’s the Irish Car Bomb? Now THAT would be something. Interestingly enough, a check of August’s full menu also lists other cocktail flavors like Blue Hawaiian, Fuzzy Navel, Hurricane, Mai Tai, Mojito, Mudslide and Strawberry Daiquiri but none of these are listed on the calendar. Perhaps they’re just available for special orders like that yummy-sounding Elvis cupcake.
BTW, Yummy now also has Movie Concession Stand Cupcakes. That’s right, you’ll be able to enjoy the likes of Junior Mint, Sour Patch Kids, Sno Caps, Good n’ Plenty, Hot Tamale and even Buttered Popcorn in a cute cake. FYI, Buttered Popcorn is described as “a buttery rich cupcake frosted with buttery, salty buttercream, topped with popcorn.” Mmm? Check Yummy’s August calendar for when each flavor is available.
At the Burbank and Santa Monica stores.

I have actually always been a big fan of Yummy Cupcakes. I go to the one in Santa Monica. That’s a dangerous location for a baker, though. I think it’s right next to Sur La Table.
I did not know they had those new flavors! I want the Pina Colada one, Margarita, Buttered Popcorn, and Junior Mint. YUM!!!!!!!!!! Very creative!
There is a cupcake place like that here in Fayetteville, NC, fyi. It has a lot of different types of cupcake that are cocktails. They have a list on their site and they have a flavor of the month that can be bought for only a dollar. There cupcakes are so moist and they also have real liqour and liquears in them. They have a milkyway that is out of this world. Has everything the drink does and a real piece of milky way in the middle.
