Where To Watch the Election: A Bazillion Plasma TVs and Red & Blue Cocktails

Tomorrow night is going to be a special night, a historical night, fingers crossed! I’m thinkin’ you’ll want to be around a bunch of folks to celebrate.

Election Night at The Abbey
I love the way the Abbey is celebrating the election: an Uncle Sam impersonator and then drink specials will be announced with every blue state win. Cute! Hopefully if things play out nicely by the end of night we’ll all be wasted. Only thing is that this bar can get pretty crowded and, for me at least, ain’t so fun when there’s nowhere to sit. At least there’s no cover.

  • 9am. 692 N. Robertson Boulevard, West Hollywood (map). (310) 855-9977.

Election Returns at Akasha
In Culver City, enjoy happy hour drink prices on red, white and blue cocktails: pomegranate cosmo, gin and elderflower on the rocks and blue cava cocktail. You can also nosh on your choice of election-themed pizza, Hawaiian style (Niman ranch ham and pineapple, jalapenos, mozzarella or Alaskan (smoked salmon, creme fraiche, dill and chives).

  • 4pm til closing. Akasha Restaurant, 9543 Culver Boulevard, Culver City (map). (310) 845-1700.

Drink the Vote at Blue on Blue
If you want to watch a la L.A. style, hit the Avalon’s poolside patio where you can partake of the “Drink the Vote” cocktails ($8 each) and food menu (3 apps for $20) and view the coverage on the big plasma screen TV. And valet is free!

  • 12pm. 9400 West Olympic Boulevard, Beverly Hills (map). (310) 407-7791.

Causecast Presents The I Voted Party at The Edison
The Edison will be where it’s at to view the election coverage thanks to Causecast. Not only will there be projectors and TVs in this airy downtown bar but dancing, a DJ set by Kid Lightning and a free drink if you sport your shiny new “I Voted” sticker. Just make sure to wear something pretty as the Edison has an “upscale casual attire” dress code. The party starts at 8pm so you can hit Pitfire Pizza around the corner first and show off your vote sticker to get an “Obama/McCain”-themed Jones Soda or Edison Ale draft beer. RSVP here.

  • 8pm-2am. $5 suggested donation. The Edison, 108 W 2nd Street, Downtown (map). (213) 613-0000.

Obama for America Election Night Gala at Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel
This official Obama bash at the Hyatt sounds awesome what with performances by Shepard Fairey and Jason Bentley. You’ll also rub elbows with Sarah Silverman, Zooey Deschanel and Pierce Brosnan, to name a few. And Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein will be dropping by. AND there isn’t even a cover. Just RSVP here. However parking is $12.50 so it’s best to carpool.

  • 8:01pm-2am. Free. The Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel, 2025 Avenue of the Stars, Century City (map).

The Onion’s “War for the White House Election Night Event Spectacular” at Redwood Bar & Grill
This shindig at everyone’s fave nautical-themed bar will be a hoot, especially cuz it’s sponsored by Dewar’s and the satirical The Onion, and Patton Oswalt will be bringing the comedy. Enjoy $3 drink specials as well as specialty red and blue drinks. Warning: Red drinks cost more. RSVP at lapromo [at] theonion.com.

  • 6pm. Redwood Bar & Grill, 316 W. 2nd Street, Downtown (map). (213) 680-2600.

Election Night at South
Obama supporters with a sprinkling of McCain folk are going to party it up at this Santa Monica bar. The election will play out on all their tvs while the projection screen will become a huge map for the occasion, marking off the states as we go. Imbibe in McCain (red) and Obama (blue) cocktails throughout the night.

  • 5pm. 3001 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica (map). (310) 828-9988.

I sure hope so! Don’t know for sure as couldn’t find any literature talking about food and drink. But you’d think they would for such a huge shindig with famous people.

Regarding the Century City Hyatt party, it looks like there will be cash bars and anticipated turnout of 11,000 people for only 4,500 capacity. More deets here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=42766242175&ref=nf

Thanks Caroline for the tips–blue on blue was great, but the subzero temps made it hard to focus on anything other than trying not to die.
