Hey folks, I’m going out of town for about a week on a lonnnnng holiday/birthday road trip to Seattle (about 2,300 round trip). That’s right, I’m driving. So I probably won’t be blogging too much, if at all. However, if I do come across a cool bar along the way, say in Eugene, Oregon, I might make mention of it. Speaking of which, any of you crackheads out there who have been to Seattle before know of any good spots I should check out?
See you when I get back next Wednesday and Happy 4th of July! I’ll miss you.
BTW, if you haven’t already, rsvp for my blogiversary party coming up next month. Free booze!

Definitely try to make it to Husky’s deli if you’re in West Seattle. The best sandwiches and ice cream I’ve had, and with some nice bars nearby:

Oh, and don’t inhale if you’re passing through Eugene and want to make it to Seattle. They have a whole different flavor of smog there thanks to the Grateful Dead.
Happy trails!
re Seattle, I would bug sizzle at sizzlesays.com – the one Seattle blogger I know of.
are you taking the 5 straight up or doing the scenic 101/1 route for parts of it? The latter is much nicer of course. I haven’t been up there in long while = I’m jealous. Have fun!
Purple Cafe and Wine bar…has yummy food and wine flights http://www.thepurplecafe.com/
Have a good road trip and a happy Birthday as well
hb2u!
If you stop in Eugene, check out the Bier Stein. It barely qualifies as a bar, however the beer selection (even if you are not a beer person) is quite impressive.
Pete Warden,
Got past Eugene just fine. But then again our windows were up and the car’s recirc was on. heh.
Lourdes, Yolanda, Hollywood,
Thanks!
Robert Dean,
We’re taking the 5 as we have family stops along the way. It ain’t too bad, especially in NorCal and Oregon. Beautiful trees and love the mountains.
Nikki,
Thanks! I’ll give it a look-see. Trying to find a place to have my bday dinner.
Jon,
We’re stopping by Eugene on our drive back and I’m sure I will be in dire need of a beer. Thanks!
I think the food in Seattle is better than L.A.
Buckley’s. (lower Queene Anne area)
Pete makes the BEST Bloody Mary with a Pabst chaser. And their mac and cheese tastes like Jesus.
Kingfish (Capitol Hill, on 19th)
Awesome soul food.
El Diablo Coffee Company (upper queen anne).
Their whole design is Mexican Loteria with a heaven theme upstairs and hell theme downstairs. Super cool coffehouse with cuban sandwiches (never tried) and great Mexi Hot Chocolate (which I always try).
Definitely hit the Brooklyn happy hour for oysters and martinis (or white wine – they have a good selection). There used to be a great tiki bar next door to Roq al Rue Gallery in Belltown, but I forget the name. Tini Big’s is a good martini joint too.
I hear handcrafted gin is the big new thing in Portland, as the local microbrewers seem to have gotten bored with hops and moved on to juniper berries. No idea where to get it but if you get the 411 and have time for a stopover – report back! :D
Have fun!
Cascadia (happy hour) the cutest, tastiest minburgers and good cocktails. M-S 5-7 pm
Salumi: cured meats heaven
Try the Dahlia Bakery cupcakes, they’re better than Sprinkles!
