The Mutha of All Whole Foods in Pasadena
Posted by Caroline on Crack under Los Angeles, Shopping & Sales -Eastsiders get all the cool stuff. Case in point, the biggest Whole Foods store west of the Rockies at 76,770 square feet of organic food goodness. This Wednesday the chain’s flagship store will open up in Pasadena.
Essentially a foodie’s (and my) heaven, the emporium will have an in-house fresh jam and jelly center, a tortilla machine for fresh tortillas, a 6,000-square foot produce department and a wine and tapas lounge with Enomatic wine selections just to name a few of its stellar features. Yeah, Enomatic wine selections? Geez. And you gotta love that the wine bar also has Belgium beer on tap.
From the LA Times:
The second level is essentially an upscale food court with Korean barbecue, vegetarian foods cooked to order, a meat carving station, sushi, organic sake and beer. Shoppers can eat in a sit-down area or proceed to browse the large wine department, butcher shop and the packaged goods aisles.
A “Take a Break” massage room and free WiFi are also available making it even harder for consumers to leave. If you don’t have time to spare during your quick errand, wear blinders.

I’m surprised they didn’t do a launch on the weekend, unless they’re afraid of overwhelming their newly-trained staff.
But in general, I’m bittersweet about this, since it also meant the actual loss of the beloved Wild Oats in the ‘dena (which WF bought/ate up pretty recently).
