I thought it would be a good idea to get an early start on Halloween costume shopping while there are still a variety of things to choose from. So I started looking around online and couldn’t help but notice the plethora of costumes for women with good figures (read: with a rack and nice abs). Everything seems to be a variation of “sexy,” like the sexy nurse, the sexy Girl Scout, the sexy construction worker. And all these usually involve little-to-no-skirt and lots of cleavage.
So what’s a normal girl like me (read: no rack and a muffin top) supposed to wear and still get noticed? Here’s my ThisNext list of costumes that are both eye-catching and sexy without your having to let it all hang out.
BTW, I’m thinking that Queen of Sparta costume is going to be really popular this year with probably about 300 of them running around at all the Halloween parties. So be warned.
And my suggestion for buying a costume, since it’s still pretty early in the game, is to go to one of the costume stores (Aahs in Santa Monica, Ursula’s, Hollywood Toys & Costumes), try ‘em on, find your best fit and then look for it online if you can stand the wait. I’ve seen some pretty good deals online, it’s just a matter of comparison shopping. For example I’ve seen that Queen of Sparta costume go for $49.99 in some places and $41.99 in others. Just keep an eye on that shipping charge though.

This is a great idea, Caro. I worked at a nightclub two years ago that required us to wear a slutty costume. I ended up going with Slutty Bee – probably the dumbest thing to make slutty.
Slutty Bee does sound dumb but I bet there is something out there that’s a lot dumber. Hmm, like Slutty Baby?
Wearing a store-bought costume is invariably lame, regardless of what your body type is. Use some creativity!
True, but this year, frankly, I ain’t feeling it all that much. Can’t think of what I want to be so searched the Web for some ideas. Last year I made my own costume and it ended up costing a pretty penny. I think this year I’ll go with store bought. Sure, I risk running into another Cleopatra but I’m OK with it.
I picked up a dirndl (traditional bavarian dress) while I was at Oktoberfest. I can’t wait to put it on again for Halloween. whoo!!
Excellent info.! Thanks, Caroline. I got invited to a halloween party at the last minute and decided to google ‘costume ideas’ and your article came up. I always like to be classy, and your suggestions are just the attire!
Good ideas I am invited to a costume party and looking for dancing friendly costume ideas and this showed up on google. You can still make cheap halloween costumes from scratch, without it costing lots. I made an intense pirate costume and it cost me $5 for a shirt, and last halloween I was Zombie Cleopatra, the only thing I bought was the wig! Use your imagination! :) Or combine things, I tend to zombify a lot of things to make them different. :P
If you do end up going with store bought, you can always alter them so they’re not as slutty, and still look pretty sexy! I refuse to wear anything that shows too much, Halloween is supposed to be a time to get candy, not laid, and most girls don’t seem to understand that.
