The Boats of Summer: Echo Park Paddle Boats
Posted by Caroline on Crack under Los Angeles, Recreation -Flickr Shot by Atezrm (detail)
It was close but looks like the paddle boats in Echo Park are here to stay thanks to some reshuffling of funds within the L.A. Recreation and Parks Department. For a bit there, the future looked bleak for the boats. Apparently $10 an hour for a boat ride doesn’t generate enough funds to maintain and operate this favorite summer pastime, even with the consistently long lines of would-be paddlers waiting to board.
But now those money troubles are all water under the bridge and the boathouse will be up and operating this summer through Labor Day — only on the weekends and during the holidays, noon to 6pm. Yay!
