Yeah, I think the Library Bar is the only place I don't feel like I'm settling by drinking beers instead of cocktails.

And thanks, Nina! :)

The Blueberry Daiquiri sounds pretty amazing, but $12? Whoever came up with the $12 fruity cocktail is an evil genius... knowing that not everyone can drink beer -- or even wine -- all the time and that they are easier to drink faster. But whenever I think about what $12 can get you in the real world -- say, at least a 1/3 of a bottle of good alcohol or a great sandwich/pizza/appetizer/dessert -- I go for the beer, and save the cocktails for home. Sigh... I get downright euphoric when I go to non-city bars that have $5-7 cocktails.

Love your blog, btw! Makes me appreciate LA a lot more. :)

Andy,

This is because people that drink cocktails/crappy cab often (and often wrongly) think they are highbrow, while people that drink beer are... smart. People that drink liquor think it's "better" therefore worth the extra cost. People that drink beer would never let a bar get away with charging more than 5-7 for a pint.

I had another one of those "why is great beer so cheap in comparison" moments last night. When I get a chance, I'll need to address this in a blog post, but something's got to give -- 10 bucks for a glass of crappy cab vs. a 5 dollar pint of handcrafted, tasty brew.
