Meatscursion: Big Apple Barbecue Block Party
Posted by Caroline on Crack under Other, Quick Getaways -As soon as dotsara told me about this, I had to book my tickets to New York City asap. Did you know they have a special barbecue block party called the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party where you can enjoy finger-licking meat goods from 12 of the nation’s top pitmasters? Why don’t we have something like this in L.A.? Hm? We got some meat lovers here, too.
Apparently this meat festival has been going on for four years; it’s the fifth year come this June. But yup, I got my plane tickets for that weekend, June 9-10. “Aww, you’re going to make me eat meat,” my New Yorker vegetarian sister mildly protested. “That’s right!” AND I’m even thinking of buying one of the special $100 fast passes so I can jump in the food and drink express lines.
There’s going to also be live jazz, bluegrass and R&B acts as well as seminars about I-don’t-know-what. How to roast a cow?
From CitySearch:
The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is a sign of summer — and a red-letter date for fans of barbecue, more than 50,000 of whom converge on Madison Avenue from 23rd to 26th Street and 24th Street from Park to Madison for a two-day festival of food, brew and tunes. The block party is free and open to the public, but food and drink tickets must be purchased. Proceeds will benefit the Madison Square Park Conservancy.
NYC EVENT: SATURDAY, JUNE 9 TO SUNDAY, JUNE 10 from 12 to 6pm
East 26th Street
New York, New York 10001

I saw some pictures from last year and…nope, not eating meat. But I did see that there’s pie to be had. Mmm…pie. You and David can pig out on the meaty goodness together. I’m still not ready.

Chris, ya think? Cool! I likes da heat.
Jennifer, it’s ok that you won’t eat meat. I just liked your reaction more than anything. And hopefully you won’t get too grossed out by all that flesh.

Hi Caroline, I ran into your blog looking for reviews on the Big Apple BBQ event. Don’t miss the Southside Market & Barbeque group - they’ve been smokin’ since 1882 and one of those special places we try to get to at least once a month (we’re in Austin, they’re in Elgin, TX).
