Hey all, I wanted to invite you to a get-together I’m throwing at the fab Royale on Wilshire tomorrow night. I’ve been wanting to have an event there ever since I first set foot in that lounge last month. It’s so pretty and big and empty on a weekday — perfect for a gathering. I thought about having a singles mixalot, or maybe saving it for my bday or perhaps kicking off a girls’ night there, but in the end grabbing drinks with my crackhead readers and friends seemed like the best reason of all. My dream is to make this a regular thing, where we can get together at random happy hours around the city each month. A flash mob happy hour if you will.
Happy hour drink specials run til 8 with $4 well drinks and $5 martinis (so cheap!), and a dj will be manning the turntables til 8:30. We can take up the 30-person booth and get all cozy with our cocktails. I hope to see you there — regular commenters, lurkers, fellow bloggers and buddies alike. The shindig starts at 7 and runs til…I’m ready to leave (it is a school night after all). Come and have a drink with me or stop by and say, “‘ello, crackhead!”

On the same night that Lava Lounge is celebrating its last night in Hollywood, the Beauty Bar will be throwing a bash for its 7th anniversary. It brought you the Prell cocktail, the manicure/martini happy hour and the Drop Dead Gorgeous beauty pageant, I’ll say it should be celebrated. DJ Erick and guest Adam 12 of She Wants Revenge will be keeping the crowd moving and grooving through the night. But the best part of all has to be the Stoli and Stella hosted bar from 9:30-10:30pm (or until they’re all tapped out). Mmm, Stoli and Stella, my faves! Grab a seat under a vintage hair dryer and raise your cocktail glass to one of the best theme bars in town.

When I lived near Venice, the Firehouse on Rose and Main used to be one of my favorite breakfast joints. Great service, great coffee, great breakfast sandwiches and great big glasses of iced beverages that were perfect for thirsty Muscle Beach bodybuilders. But I haven’t gone there in maybe a year or so.
Yesterday though, since I was nursing a horrible horrible hangover, I knew a big breakfast would be just the thing. So my party bus companion Erin and I met up at the Firehouse to recount the previous night’s festivities. I should have known things at the ol’ Firehouse were different from what I was used to when a haggard, unshaven Robert Downey Jr. followed me in from off the street. ‘Cept I didn’t see him behind me so let the screen door slam shut when I walked in. Oops.

Ugh, my head hurts. I haven’t had a hangover like this since…I don’t know when. What’s funny is that before I got on board L.A. Barhopper’s Mystery Bus Tour, I swore to myself and my friends that I wasn’t going to get plastered. Usually two drinks is my max, for practical reasons. But I guess I just got carried away with the spirit of the bus.
Nope, before the night was over I would have unwittingly consumed three Jameson & Cokes, three swigs from a flask of Jack Daniels, a Black and Tan and a bottle of Newcastle. Yup. Don’t know what happened there.
The evening started off innocent enough. We showed up at Joxer Daly’s in Culver City. Brian, the party bus tour director, told us we could order anything off the menu for free. Sweet! and a good idea to pad the stomach to prepare it for the night’s festivities. My group of friends and crackhead readers made fast friends with the other would-be passengers as we all sat together and shared our orders of fries, quesadillas, and chicken fingers.

After 13 years serving the Hollywood nightlife hidden in the boring confines of a La Brea strip mall, the Lava Lounge is bidding you “aloha.” Which is sad because it’s one of those places I’ve always meant to check out but never did thinking it would always be around. I know, nothing in club life lasts forever. Anyway now’s your chance (and mine) to enjoy this bit of tikidom before it closes its doors. (First Trader Vic’s, now this?) And it’s not going to go quietly into that good night, what with its Kinky Karaoke, burlesque show and fire sale.
Kinky Karaoke, Sunday the 25th: Tomorrow night, if you have nothing to do because you don’t care about the Oscars, take the stage at the final Kinky Karaoke night where you can sing your final good-byes a la Journey or Bon Jovi. This one is sure to be a scene since they’re usually so popular. And don’t let that little event at the Kodak Theater a couple of blocks scare you away. It’s the final karaoke, there ain’t going to be another. Starts at 9pm. No cover.
Bobbie Burlesque presents We Loved It (the final show), Wednesday the 28th: Bobbie Burlesque helps the Lounge go out with a bang-shicka-baum-baum, presenting 10 lovely girls with names like Scarlet Letter and Foxie Moxie. That’s right, a burlesque show. Show starts at 9:30pm with $5 cover.
The Fire Sale, March 2-4: Looking for that one something special to add to your bar at home? After the party is over, the doors will open one last time so that tiki fans may grab a bit of nightclub history: bar stools, tikis, lamps, tables, sconces. Nothing over $200. 1pm-5pm.

OK, I was really conflicted about posting this especially since I have sworn this store off but I figured a 50% storewide sale off designer goods is always newsworthy. So, yeah, the huge (three times bigger than paparazzi stakeout location, the Malibu PU) Santa Monica Planet Blue is having a two-day sale on its entire store. James Perse, Rock and Republic, Diane von Furstenberg? All half price. I went by there this morning and they have all these boxes of said goodies out to stock the racks.
My friend Amy who loooves this place, even though she was the one who told me about that gossip of the questionable store policy, told me how she racked up on designer jeans marked down to $25 at last year’s sale. Pretty good. However, last time the sale fell on Super Bowl weekend. Perfect for football widows. This year it lands on Oscar weekend…perfect for…Oscar…widowers? They got some guy stuff so perhaps. Anyway, happy shopping and remember to get there early to snag the good stuff. Let me know if you do find anything good.

Hey all, I was able to score a couple of FREE tickets (usually $29.99) to this Saturday’s Mystery Barhopping Party Bus Tour a la L.A. Barhopper. Surprisingly I have yet to hop on board one of these bad boys but this Saturday I’m going to give it a go. Anyone care to join me? The first of my crackheads who would like the pair, drop me a note here and it’s yours.
It’s going to be a blast. We’re going to meet at Joxer Daly’s in Culver City at 8 for some free food and $5 Guinness just to get things started. M’kay? And then we hit the road. There will be four downtown bars but which ones remains a mystery. (Although I will say that one of them has been on my list of bars to check out for months now.) Suffice it to say that they aren’t fancy like the Edison. Besides I think it’s understood that barhoppers don’t need to dress up. You can’t very well stumble around while you’re already teetering on 3-inch heels. Nope, I’m going to be in my barhopping uniform: jeans, a T-shirt and my favorite Converse.
So come out, hold onto your flask (it’s also BYOB on the bus if you’re that insistent about getting plastered) and enjoy the ride. No worries about DUIs, cover charges and forgetting where you parked your car. Instead, here, you get drinking games, drink specials and lots of new friends.
Of course if you want to bring a group along, I can’t help you there but can point you to the site where you can buy more tickets. Right here.
