Last-Minute Halloween Costume Brainstorm
Posted by Caroline on Crack under Other, Beauty & Fashion -On a personal note, I got invited to a Halloween costume party this weekend where the theme is simply “Good & Evil.” Sounds easy enough, right? Nope! At this particular party, the usual angel and devil aren’t good enough.
Scouring all the online costume shops like buycostume.com and halloweenmart.com, nothing grabbed me. And since I’m not the type of girl who likes to show all her goods, my prepackaged costume options are limited. (Why do the women’s costumes always have to be so slutty? Even Marie Antoinette’s 18th-century gown isn’t safe. If the bar is set that low, how is a normal girl supposed to get any attention?)
Considering what’s out there (and what I got in my closet), I’m thinking of doing one of the following:
Gogo Yubari, O-Ren Ishii’s yukaza bodyguard in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Although the movie is so three years ago, villains never go out of style and that film has lots of great costume ideas. I like Gogo’s because it’s a different take on the schoolgirl costume. Except instead of using pencils to hold up my hair, I’d wear a nailed wooden board attached to my head. And instead of sporting studious-looking glasses, I’d wield a manriki. At first I considered getting one off eBay but remembered that weapons and drinking don’t mix. So maybe I’ll just have to get creative with a fake ball & chain and a spiked collar. This is my favorite idea so far.
Fallen Victoria’s Secret Angel. This doesn’t necessarily mean slutty and it’s a mix on good and evil. Simple to do since I already have a pair of black angel wings and a black slip dress, it’ll do in a pinch. All I need is bed head and a Victoria’s Secret catalog where I mark up the models’ pictures with blacked-out teeth and devil horns. Yeah, I’m not too excited about this one.
Feuding Paris and Nicole. True, they’re not fighting anymore…or are they? I’d need to do this with a friend obviously, but this could be fun. Just dress up like the socialites wearing huge bug-eye sunglasses and wigs, walk through the party posing for imaginary papparazzi (maybe even carry your own flashing strobe lights to mimic camera flashes) like the bestest of bffs and then break out into spontaneous cat fights every now and then.
Evil Queen. Out of all the prepackaged Halloween costumes for women out there, this one isn’t too bad or over-the-top “sexy.” Since this queen from Snow White was one of my fave villians, she’d be a fun one to dress up as. Dark red lipstick and a matching red apple would be the finishing touches.
That’s all I got.

You buy a large can of Spam and carefully remove label. You make lots of lazer color copies of the label. (Or if you really like Spam, you just buy lots of cans of Spam and use the labels.) You get a large garbage bag and make head and arm holes in it. You paste the Spam labels all around it. Maybe you get some computer paper and have that coming out the leg end of the garbage bag. You carry a small keyboard. Voila! You’re an evil spammer. You may elect to eat/pass out Skittles as well.
White trash variation: forget the spam. Wear pancake makeup, white tights, have wadded newpaper coming out the bottom of the garbage bag. You’re White Trash.
Or you could be good… Nah!

Further thoughts on the Spammer… You ditch the keyboard and carry around a boombox playing an endless loop of the Pythons’ “Spam.” You print up emails of the usual suspects (penile enlargement, Viagra, breast enhancement, penny stocks, etc., etc.) and pass em out. I guess to be cute you give enlargement/enhancement emails to the inappropriate sexes. To be evil, well,…

LOL that’s hilarious! Is that what you’re going to do for Halloween?

OMG Kill Bill is SO not 3 years ago…okay, maybe it is factually, but Tarantino’s next movie is 2007, so it’s still kinda relevant…good costume idea too!

Yeah, I heard that there’s going to be a Kill Bill 3 where everyone goes after Beatrice, like Gogo’s sister, Yumi.
BTW, I decided on Gogo. :)

My costume turned out really nice but unfortunately at the end of the night my weapon came apart. Will have to reglue the spikes. Pictures are forthcoming…

[…] But when one of Dre’s friends invited us to go this year, I thought about it, researched the online reviews, and checked out the City of West Hollywood’s site. Even though expected turn out is 500,000 (yikes!) reading that the city will suspend permit parking eased my mind a bit; finding out that there will be five parking lots available ($10 to park) as well as a CityLine service from 5:30pm to 1:30am offered some encouragement. Hmm, maybe if we go a little early, like when the party begins at 6pm the streets will still be maneuverable. And we might even be able to get into the Abbey before things get too out of hand. Perhaps GoGo should pay a visit. […]
