Snorg Tees: They’re All Gonna Laugh at You!

http://www.snorgtees.com/imkindofabigdeal-p-212.html
OK, you’re probably over the whole message on a T-shirt thing. I was, too, until I saw this one. Come on! Dat’s funny! It’s so L.A. Along the same lines as, “Don’t you know who I am?” Hmm, they SHOULD make a shirt about that.

Anyway, Snorg Tees has all these great T-shirts with different sayings. The following made me giggle:

I Have the Body of a God: See? cuz it’s really a picture of Buddha and not some Greek god. Heh. This would probably be funnier on a guy though.

I’m Huge in Japan: This will help people to understand why you bleach your hair orange and slather on the fake tanning cream all the time.

Viva la Stewart: John Stewart 2008.

Wish You Were Beer: Because only beer understands.

All the t-shirts are made out of form-fitting American Apparel jersey tees and available in both men and women sizes ($16.95 each).

Apple and the Peppers: Red Hot Chili Peppers Listening Party

http://www.gnaps.de/bilder/rhcp.gif

Apple stores in the Grove and Third Street Promenade will be hosting listening parties for the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ new album Stadium Arcadium before it goes on sale May 9th.

Personally I haven’t been all that crazy about the Peppers since Mother’s Milk (one of my favorite albums ever), and their newly released single “Dani California” sounds reminiscent of Californication. Not that that’s a bad thing. I just really liked the RHCP when they were all freaky styley and funky. And I can’t imagine what one would do at a listening party, let alone one at a store in the mall. Sit there with your forefinger and thumb thoughtfully stroking your chin and tapping your foot?

At least you’ll be able to hear all 28 songs in one sitting, and you’ll get a FREE iTunes music card good for an upload of “Dani California” just for coming in (while supplies last).

Fancy a Shag? RSVP Now

Shag Flier

I usually steer clear of clubs like Mood, Cabana Club and LAX since unlike Paris, Nicole and Ashton, I am admittedly not too cool for school. But hearing about the grand opening of Shag, a night presented by L.A. nightlife shakers Avant Garde and LA.com, I just have to check it out. That and LA.com keeps sending out emails and putting up Myspace bulletin board posts telling me to “RSVP NOW!” What can I say? I’m easily swayed.

Shag is taking over the old Concorde club’s space and has apparently transformed it into “a French-themed playground with marble floors, leopard-skin seating and an elegant ambience,” according to LA.com. Sounds tres elegan-tay. But whatever.

The buzz on this club is that Geisha House owner Shereen Arazm, not Ashton, is behind it. Vanity Fair and those Desperate Housewives have already held their private events there. And for marketing company Avant Garde and L.A. nightlife know-it-all LA.com (affectionately said of course) to promote its kick-off…well, we know where this is heading. Paparazzi paradiso.

On Thursday, May 4, Hollywood’s “It” boy and Cabana Club’s resident cutie on Saturday nights, DJ Splyce, will be manning the turntables and “several top celebs are rumored to be attending.”

I almost didn’t RSVP when I read somewhere that I should “dress to impress,” and I don’t know what that means. Will simply dressing nice do or should I invest in some True Religion jeans? Eek!

To RSVP, submit your guest list to PlusOneRSVP@LA.com.

EVENT: Thursday, May 4 at 10pm

Plastered in Pink: A Girl Drink Drunk’s Fave Spots

Girl Drink

Before I found Jameson and Coke, I was big into specialty cocktails. I’d sidle up to every new bar I walked into and ask for their list of house cocktails. If they had a menu, joy! If not, bo-ring!

A bar’s cocktail list is a sign of the talent and the imagination of the house drink scientist. No self-respecting loungy bar should go without such a menu. Below are a few of my favorite joints for these cocktails, either because of the fantastic concoctions or because of the heavy-handed pouring, or maybe even both in some cases.

Beauty Bar is probably the ultimate place for a girls’ night out if not for their hair salon-inspired names like the Prell and Platinum Blonde then for John their hot doorman or even their $10 mani/martini special, where if you buy a ‘tini you get a mani (or a henna tattoo) for free.

On an aside, May 7th is the day when lovely L.A. Beauty Bar patrons will have the chance to compete for the regional title of Miss Beauty Bar and a $250 cash prize. Details are on the site. To compete, sign up here.

The Bigfoot Lodge on Los Feliz has my favorite girl drinks ever: the Toasted Marshmallow and the Girl Scout Cookie. If you order the Toasted Marshmallow, you’re treated to a spectacle when the bartender douses the marshmallow garnish with Bacardi 151 and lights it over your creamy marshmallowy drink. The Girl Scout Cookie totally tastes like the ever popular Thin Mint cookie except it’s so creamy that you can’t down too many of these in one sitting. On Tuesday nights, it’s girls’ night where ladies can get $4 pink drinks or $3 draft beers. I tried the pink drinks and it’s awright, so I stick with my faves.

Liquid Kitty has award-winning martinis as bestowed by CitySearch, Yahoo and KCAL’s “9 on the Town.” Personally, I’m not all that crazy about their concoctions but their drinks are very potent and always get me into trouble. With an innocuous-sounding name like “Lolita” how much trouble can one get into from sipping 10 ounces of blue curacao, pineapple juice and vodka? Let me just say, LOTS. But the Kitty is very laidback and oh-so dark. So if you just want a place to drink your girl drink without judgment, this would be it.

Lola’s on Fairfax has an encyclopedia of a specialty cocktails list. It should since it’s been billed as the spot that launched a thousand apple martinis. The drinks start at around $10 and you can take your pick of house fave, the tart green apple martini, or the sweeter caramel apple ‘tini which comes with a splash of butterscotch schnapps.

Velvet Margarita Cantina is great for the Pink Puta. You heard me–strawberries, half and half and tequila. Every time I’ve gone here, it’s what the loud gaggles of girls always order. It’s sweet, creamy and pretty in pink. Personally I prefer the pomegranate margarita. It’s dark, it’s red, it’s simple and very tasty. I could easily down many because it’s not filling.

My 15 Seconds in Today’s L.A. Times

Woo hoo! Caroline on Crack got a very brief mention in today’s Los Angeles Times because of my readers’ comments on a post I did about that after-hours club, Xenii. Of course it was all because of the readers but it’s a front page story, baby! (Thanks, readers!)

If you are the kind of person who needs to name-drop B-celebrity names in order to validate your existence, then this is the place for you,” wrote “Lordy,” an anonymous poster on the nightlife and L.A.-centric website “Caroline on Crack.” “It’s about as socially rewarding as a monster truck rally.”

Awesome.

Cristophe’s Beauty Mix: Singles Mingle & Makeover

I’ve read about all these new ways to get singles together: sanctioned wine tastings, happy hours, movie nights, evenings at the opera…but never while getting a makeover.

Cristophe Salon along with Redlight Promotions is kicking off a monthly night of beauty and networking where “young trendsetters, club-goers, and young professional entertainment types, as well, as media and celebrities” will enjoy getting makeovers and consultations in a party atmosphere.

The Beauty Mix is obviously open to both men and women. I’m just skeptical as to the sort of man it’ll draw out. Will he be vain? Really into his looks? Um, h’yeah. I’m imagining a Jonathan Antin type. And I’m also skeptical about meeting guys while my hair is up in foils. I certainly don’t feel pretty until AFTER I step out of the salon. But maybe all the beautiful people who are expected to attend won’t feel that way.

The event is complimentary with an RSVP, and all the salon services (i.e. cut, blowdry, tanning, pedicure, etc.) will be offered with a 50% discount, which is good considering this is a celebrity stylist’s salon in Beverly Hills. And who can resist the open bar, gift bags with Cristophe hair products and a $50 gift certificate, the catered hors d’oeuvres as well as the dj and dancing?

EVENT: Thursday, May 4 from 7-10pm

RSVP: Jenn Laskey (213) 321-5886, jenn@redlightpromotions.com
COST: Free with RSVP

For appointment bookings, call the salon and mention you were referred by Jenn.

Design-her Gals: Fun Customized Stationary

Look at me, I'm a cartoon!Just found this cool site, Design-her Gals, where you can make a cartoon version of yourself and then print it out on business cards, invitations, note cards, stickers, whatever you want. Unfortunately, it’s just for women right now but then again would guys be interested in something like this: designing a cute cartoon version of themselves?

Apparently this little service made it on Oprah’s May O List of must-haves. But it’s very handy. Brides can put themselves in wedding gowns for wedding announcements and expectant mothers can use the preggers gal cartoon of themselves for baby shower invites.

I decided to try to make one for Caroline on Crack calling cards but then I spent all day trying to find just the right outfit to convey a girl about town. There are some cute clothing options but nothing that looks like anything I would own or wear to a bar. Even in cartoon form, I can’t find a thing to wear.

Prices are decent for customized stationary:

Notecards, Recipe Cards: 25 for $45
#10 Invites: 25 for $65
Calling Cards, Business Cards: 50 for $45
Memo paper: 200 for $45

If you want to you can pay $24.95 for a year membership and print all you want anytime you want from home.
