New Bar Buzz: Bar Lubitsch in WeHo

Apparently, the Russian neighborhood around the Fairfax district in West Hollywood wasn’t a great place to put a Goth nightclub, as The Parlour Club, a Goth-inspired haunt, has been replaced by a more appropriate vodka bar called Bar Lubitsch.
Having not checked out the place myself yet and finding nothing on this bar in any of my fave city guides, this is what I got for you about the new contribution to West Hollywood nightlife.
LA Weekly reports that the venue is “done up 1939-Moscow-speakeasy-meets-disco style” and that the staff are required to wear red uniforms. There are about “a zillion vodkas and strong sippers such as ‘the Molotov Cocktail’” and B-list celebs are already swarming the joint.
From CalendarLive.com:
Excellent news for L.A.: Barkeep Sean MacPherson (Good Luck, Bar Marmont, Swingers, Jones, El Carmen) has no plans to abandon this fair city. Despite his success in New York (Maritime Hotel), he says he’s planning many more bars in Hollywood. Among them, Bar Lubitsch, which debuts March 1. Former Bar Marmont manager Jared Meisler is a partner in the project (at the former Parlour Club site in WeHo), which boasts 200 vodkas and a design scheme that makes it look as if it’s been there forever. “I wanted to pay respect to the Russian neighborhood, as well as create something timeless,” MacPherson says, “It’s also a nod to the German-born filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch, a nod to old Hollywood.”
Sounds like it’ll fit in swimmingly.

I used to work at parlour. It didn’t close because the area couldn’t sustain it. The owners got offered over market value to sell, so they did.

This place is amazing. Very spacious and lots of places to sit down. Great music and exceptionally friendly staff. The decor is warm and elegant and the atmosphere is very welcoming. It was packed last Saturday, and the dance floor was jumping. The drinks are’t cheap, but where are they? I’m not a big vodka fan, but their signature cocktails are very tasty.

[…] So with no drinks in hand and nowhere to sit down, we didn’t feel like there was much reason to stay. And only after 10 minutes from when we first walked in. The decor was gorgeous, the crowd looked interesting enough but we couldn’t get past the high drink prices. I was about to throw the towel in when at the last second, I decided to duck into the back room past the restrooms to check the rest of the place out. Might as well get a good look while I was here. And I’ve always wanted to visit Bar Lubitsch since I first read and wrote about it last year. […]
